A squint also called Strabismus is a condition of inappropriate alignment of eyes. It can be constant or intermittent. Commonly seen in young groups of children or it can be developed at later stages of adulthood. One eye can turn inwards( Esotropia), upwards(Hypertropia), outwards(Exotropia)or downwards( Hypotropia). While the other eye focuses on one point. Both eyes cannot focus on one spot at the same time. This happens due to lack of coordination between eyes and brain. Secondly, it can be due to weak muscles that control the movement of eyes and eyelids.
CAUSES
DIAGNOSIS
A baby's eye test should start at the age of 9 months. Children should have regular routine eye check ups as they grow. Mandatory eye screening when children start schooling. Prompt diagnosis helps in delayed complications. Correction at a young age helps in quick and better results. If uncorrected at the right age and time then it can lead to permanent vision difficulties.
